This was a private tour for some guests who were up from the south of England on a holiday. We started the day off with a look out to sea, an absolutely cracking adult Roseate Tern showed alongside a Sandwich Tern for a good comparison. Waders on the beach came in the form of Redshank and Ringed Plover. Cresswell Pond was alive with birds, a Eurasian Spoonbill was asleep on the far side, whilst some much closer Mediterranean Gulls showed well in their summer finery. Their much smaller cousins were close by; Little Gulls. Some handsome Black-tailed Godwits were also in attendance.
The Budge Fields gave us super views of Whimbrel amongst the post breeding Curlew flock. An all too brief Wood Sandpiper was notable but a Spotted Redshank did show well. Some of the Black-tailed Godwits were truly stunning and were in nearly full summer plumage, a truly superb plumage to see. A surprise came in the form of a flyover Cuckoo which headed off towards the dunes.
Final stop was East Chevington NWT, on the main lake we had more Little Gulls, these birds treated us to some dip feeding flight action. We finished off the tour with good views of a family part of Marsh Harriers.
We ended on a 57 species of bird.
